Executive Function Coach Dubai Marina
📍 Online Sessions Available
While many of our families are based in Dubai Marina, we serve students across Dubai and the UAE through flexible online coaching sessions. Your child can participate from anywhere.
Dubai Marina and JBR are among Dubai's most densely populated residential communities — and home to a large concentration of the city's international school families. The Marina corridor feeds some of Dubai's most established British and IB schools, both nearby and further along the Sheikh Zayed Road corridor.
What unites many Marina families is a particular version of a familiar problem: a child who is clearly intelligent, socially confident, and articulate — who performs well in class, participates actively, and clearly understands the material — but whose submitted work, homework completion, and examination results don't reflect what you know they're capable of.
This gap — between visible intelligence and consistent academic output — is the signature of an executive function deficit. It has nothing to do with ability. It has everything to do with the specific cognitive skills that determine whether ability translates into performance. And it is exactly what Executive Skills Dubai is designed to address. You can see how that work is structured week by week on the coaching programme.
The Dubai Marina and JBR Student Profile
Marina and JBR students tend to live in high-stimulation environments — vibrant, social, activity-rich communities where there is always something more immediately interesting than homework. This isn't a problem unique to Marina, but the density and social richness of waterfront living can amplify the task initiation difficulties that are already part of an executive function profile.
The students I work with from this area are frequently described by their parents as: easily distracted, socially motivated, capable of extraordinary focus when interested, and apparently indifferent to academic work that doesn't engage them. Their teachers often say they are "bright but inconsistent" or "could do so much better if they applied themselves."
Both descriptions are accurate — and both miss the real explanation. The distraction isn't a choice. The inconsistency isn't laziness. The inability to apply themselves to low-interest work is a neurological feature of an executive function profile that hasn't yet developed the task initiation and sustained attention systems that independent academic work requires. For families where this pattern has tipped into burnout, our article on student burnout in Dubai explores the recovery process.
Understanding this changes what you do about it. Consequences and conversations don't build executive function skills. Structured, explicit coaching does. Where ADHD is part of the picture, our ADHD support for teenagers in Dubai page covers the additional considerations.
Schools Served in the Dubai Marina and JBR Area
Executive Skills Dubai works with families at the British and IB schools around Dubai Marina, JBR, and JLT, including:
British curriculum schools — offering the National Curriculum of England through to A Level. The transition to GCSE and A Level study in Years 10–13 significantly increases the executive function demands placed on students and is a common point at which previously managed difficulties become acute.
IB schools — offering the IB from PYP through to Diploma. IB Diploma students in particular face the most demanding executive function challenge in secondary education — six subjects, Internal Assessments, an Extended Essay, and CAS running simultaneously across two years.
Academically demanding British schools — where the gap between classroom understanding and independent work output is one of the most common patterns I see in referrals from this area.
Students from further afield in the JLT and Al Furjan communities also work with Executive Skills Dubai, with all sessions held online.
The Specific Challenge of IB Diploma in Dubai Marina Schools
Dubai Marina and Meadows families with IB Diploma students face a particular concentration of executive function pressure. The IB's Internal Assessment structure — with substantial pieces of independent work required in every subject — is maximally demanding on the planning, initiation, and self-monitoring skills that executive function governs. For a curriculum-specific overview, see our IB and IGCSE student support page.
The pattern I see most consistently: a capable Year 12 student who intends to start their Internal Assessments early, finds reasons not to, falls progressively behind, and arrives at the submission window having produced work that doesn't reflect their ability. Multiplied across six subjects simultaneously, this is a crisis that was entirely preventable with the right support structure in place. Our article on IB study skills for success in Dubai sets out the practical building blocks.
Coaching during the IB years — particularly Year 12 — focuses on building the specific systems needed to manage the IA structure: concrete, dated action plans, consistent writing session habits, strategies for managing the perfectionism and avoidance that commonly derail the process, and the emotional regulation tools to sustain momentum across a two-year programme.
The students who navigate IB successfully are not necessarily the most intelligent. They are the ones with the strongest executive function systems — either naturally developed or explicitly built with support.
Online Coaching for Dubai Marina Families
Executive Skills Dubai coaches online. All sessions are online, so families anywhere in Dubai or the UAE can take part.
Online coaching suits Marina families — the flexibility to schedule sessions around school, extracurricular commitments, and the general pace of Marina life makes video coaching significantly more sustainable for most families. Sessions run weekly, 50–60 minutes, via video call.
Executive function coaching is conversational and skills-based, which transfers well to video. What matters is consistency and the quality of the coaching relationship, not the medium. If you're weighing options, our piece on tutoring vs coaching in Dubai may be useful.
What to Expect — The Coaching Process
Every coaching engagement begins with a free 30-minute consultation with the parent. This conversation covers: what you're observing at home and at school, what the school has said, what interventions have already been tried, and what your specific concerns are for your child's academic trajectory.
From there, if coaching is the right fit, we begin with a profile assessment — identifying the specific executive function skills that need building and designing the coaching programme around them. Sessions run weekly. Parents receive a brief summary after each session. The goal across the full engagement is always the same: a student who has built the internal systems to manage their academic life independently, without a coach — and without you having to be their external working memory.
Most Marina families working with Executive Skills Dubai see meaningful early shifts within four to six weeks, and foundational skill development across three to six months.

No sales pressure. No obligation. A straight conversation about your child.
All sessions are online, so families in Dubai Marina, JBR, JLT and anywhere in Dubai or the UAE can take part.
